5 Arrested in Istanbul Anti-Criminal Operation
In a recent series of operations led by the Istanbul Police Department’s Combating Organized Crimes Branch teams on March 1, a significant blow was dealt to an organization headed by ZA. A total of 35 individuals were arrested during these operations. Further investigations into the organization revealed that one of its leaders, identified as EA, had been actively threatening 12 business owners in the Bağcılar district. Shockingly, EA was also found to have orchestrated armed attacks on 4 businesses in the area.
To address these criminal activities, the Combating Organized Crimes Branch teams conducted a follow-up operation on June 25, resulting in the detention of 15 more individuals connected to the organization. In an official statement released by the Istanbul Police Department, it was emphasized that the situation in Bağcılar had escalated due to EA’s actions. The statement further elaborated that a total of 12 businesses had been targeted by EA, who was believed to be residing abroad, with 4 of them being subjected to armed attacks.
Following the operation on June 25, all 15 suspects were apprehended and taken into custody. Subsequently, judicial proceedings were initiated against these individuals. As of June 28, 2024, 10 of the suspects were placed under judicial control, while 5 others were arrested and transferred to the Penitentiary Institution.
