6,000 Police Officers to Secure Paris Olympics
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has revealed that 6,000 police officers will be deployed to ensure the security of the Olympic flame as it makes its way to Marseille on May 8. This announcement comes ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games that are scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
Speaking to reporters, Darmanin emphasized the importance of security measures to ensure the safety of the torch relay. He mentioned that when the historic 19th century sailboat Belem arrives in Marseille with the torch, a significant number of maritime police and bomb disposal teams will be on hand to oversee the event. The increase in security personnel showcases the city’s commitment to hosting a safe and successful Olympic Games.
Darmanin reassured the public that preparations are nearly complete for the torch’s arrival and that there are no imminent threats to the games or the flame, aside from potential weather-related issues. The Olympic flame was lit during a traditional ceremony in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympics, on April 16, marking the official start of its journey to France.
The torch will travel across the country, culminating in the lighting of the Olympic flame during the opening ceremony in Paris on July 26. The event promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating the spirit of the Olympics and uniting people from all corners of the globe.
