Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Speaks Out on Recent Protests
In the wake of the recent protests and the subsequent arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has made some significant statements addressing the situation. According to Yerlikaya, 150 police officers were injured during the protests, and a total of 879 people were detained, with 260 of them being arrested.
Yerlikaya emphasized the importance of justice prevailing in courtrooms, rather than on the streets. He condemned the violence that took place during the protests, stating that such actions only serve to undermine the rule of law and do not benefit anyone. Yerlikaya also questioned the motives behind the recent boycott calls and street actions, pointing out that they may have ulterior intentions.
The Interior Minister revealed that a total of 662 operations are ongoing in response to the recent events, with 12 terrorist organizations being implicated. Additionally, 17 different crimes, including drug-related offenses and intentional wounding, have been identified among the suspects.
In light of the upcoming Ramadan Feast holiday, Yerlikaya announced that holiday measures have been increased, extending the holiday to 9 days. Traffic measures have also been intensified, with a total of 69,011 staff, including police and gendarmerie personnel, being deployed to ensure public safety until April 8.
As the Ministry continues to address the aftermath of the protests, Yerlikaya’s statements underscore the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public order.
