Damage assessment on fishing boats hit by storms and giant waves in Zonguldak

The Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu has announced that the damage assessment on a total of 92 licensed fishing boats, which were damaged in a severe storm and giant waves that struck the Zonguldak province, has been completed. These fishing boats were identified in all of the ports throughout Zonguldak, especially Ereğli and Alaplı, following the completion of the assessment.

Furthermore, efforts are underway to search for the 11 missing crew members of the Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship named Kafkametler, which sank in a storm in Zonguldak’s Ereğli district. This incident has emphasized the severity of the damage caused by the storms in the area. Spokesperson of the Zonguldak Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry informed that all of the 92 licensed boats have been registered in their system.

In line with these developments, 57 schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education have also suffered major damage to their roofs during the storm. Governor Hacıbektaşoğlu assured the public that with the necessary repairs, which will be done in the next 10 days, education and training will continue as usual.

Following the completed damage assessment of the boats in the harbor in the Ereğli district, evacuation procedures were started in the fishing shelter. The damaged boats stuck in the storm were lifted with the help of cranes and removed from the shelter. These boats were then moved to empty areas on the coastline and loaded onto tow trucks to be taken for maintenance and repair.

The attention and support from relevant ministers and officials has been mobilized to address the damages in the region. Governor Hacıbektaşoğlu points out that all necessary measures are being taken and repairs will be completed within the specified timeframe to ensure that life in the region returns to normal as soon as possible.
