Adakhan Madumarov moved from hospital to SCNS pretrial detention center

Kyrgyz Parliament Deputy Adakhan Madumarov has been transferred from a hospital to the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) after being arrested by court order, according to Butun Kyrgyzstan party. The news was reported by the 24.kg news agency.

Madumarov had been hospitalized at the Mirsaid Mirrakhimov Cardiology Center, where he underwent medical examinations and received treatment. His deteriorating health prompted his admission to the hospital on October 26.

The deputy was detained on September 2 and subsequently placed in the pre-trial detention center of the SCNS as per the court’s decision.

The Parliament had previously approved the prosecution of Adakhan Madumarov. The case pertains to a protocol signed in 2009 in Khujand, in which Madumarov, who was the secretary of the Security Council at the time, signed minutes of a working meeting between the heads of state bodies from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The protocol involved the leasing of a 5-hectare plot of land with a length of 275 meters from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan for a period of 49 years. The document was adopted after negotiations took place in Khujand, during which domestic procedures were finalized to prevent economic activities along the state border until the demarcation and delimitation process was completed.

Adakhan Madumarov has been charged with treason.
