ADB’s Initiative to Establish 500 Preschools in Uzbekistan’s Regions

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been entrusted with the role of transaction advisor to the Ministries of Preschool and School Education, and Economy and Finance in Uzbekistan. This important initiative aims to improve the quality of preschool education through public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, and Tashkent regions. This effort builds on ADB’s existing advisory work in establishing 100 preschools in the Samarkand region.

With the support of ADB, there are plans to establish up to 500 preschools, with approximately 100 in each of the five regions. This endeavor has the potential to benefit around 75,000 students. These projects are in line with Uzbekistan’s Strategy 2030, which focuses on modernizing the country’s education system.

ADB Country Director for Uzbekistan, Kanokpan Lao-Araya, highlighted the significance of ADB’s transaction advisory support in bringing best practices to the management and operation of preschools. This assistance will help improve the quality and sustainability of preschool education in the country. Lao-Araya emphasized that these projects represent a further step in ADB’s support for private sector development in Uzbekistan and will contribute to establishing an education system that meets international standards.

The advisory services provided by ADB will encompass project preparation, structuring, and support in identifying qualified private partners. Drawing on its extensive experience in developing Uzbekistan’s PPP market, ADB will assist both the government and the private sector in implementing these initiatives. The bank has previously facilitated PPP projects in various sectors, including education, healthcare, renewable energy, utilities, waste management, and water services. This latest collaboration underscores ADB’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and enhancing educational opportunities in Uzbekistan.
