Alexander Volkanovski reclaims UFC featherweight championship title
Australian fighter Alexander Volkanovski has once again become the UFC featherweight champion after defeating Diego Lopes in the main event of UFC 314. The thrilling fight ended with a unanimous decision in favor of Volkanovski, who now captures the vacant title previously held by Ilia Topuria.
Volkanovski and Lopes went head-to-head for the featherweight title, with the judges scoring the fight 48-47, 49-46, 49-46 in favor of Volkanovski. This victory comes as a redemption for Volkanovski after suffering consecutive knockout losses to Topuria and Islam Makhachev.
Making history in the UFC, Volkanovski becomes the first male fighter to win a championship fight after the age of 35. He had previously claimed the title in December 2019 with a win over Max Holloway and successfully defended it five times before being knocked out by Topuria in February 2024.
