American Airlines Jet Collides with Army Helicopter in Washington Landing
A TRAGIC AIRPLANE COLLISION IN WASHINGTON
An American Airlines plane carrying 60 passengers and four crew members crashed into an army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington. The incident has prompted a large search-and-rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River.
Emergency responders have not provided information on casualties yet, but all take-offs and landings at the airport were immediately stopped. Helicopters from law enforcement agencies in the region are scouring the area in search of survivors.
DC Fire Chief John Donnelly described the operation as highly complex, noting that the conditions for responders are extremely challenging. The army helicopter was on a training flight with three soldiers on board when the collision occurred.
Among the passengers on the American Airlines flight were several US figure skaters returning from a training camp. Additionally, two Russian figure skaters and coaches were also onboard.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the deployment of all available resources from the US Coast Guard to assist in the search and rescue efforts. President Donald Trump expressed his condolences, stating he had been briefed on the tragic accident.
Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described the situation as preventable and not good. Vice President JD Vance urged followers to pray for all those involved in the incident.
