Arab Ministers Address UNRWA Session at UN Security Council
Arab Ministers spoke passionately at the recent UNRWA session held at the UN Security Council (UNSC), highlighting the importance of the agency in providing vital aid to Palestinian refugees.
Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmet Attaf emphasized the crucial role UNRWA plays as the last hope for the Palestinian people amidst their ongoing tragedy. He condemned the attacks and targeting the agency has faced, noting that reducing its funding would only serve Israel’s interests in erasing the Palestinian cause.
Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi echoed Attaf’s sentiments, stressing the essential humanitarian work UNRWA carries out in Gaza, where millions are facing hunger. He urged the international community to support and protect UNRWA from Israel’s efforts to dismantle it.
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan also joined the chorus in praising UNRWA’s efforts in providing hope to suffering Palestinians. He criticized the UN Security Council’s inaction in preventing Israel’s attacks in Gaza and called for an end to the double standards that perpetuate civilian suffering.
Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Osama Abdulkhalik, rejected the unfounded justifications used by some countries to stop funding UNRWA in appeasement of Israel. He commended the agency’s employees for their dedication to humanitarian work in the face of unprecedented disinformation campaigns.
