Massive Protests Against Argentina’s Reform Package In Buenos Aires
Thousands of people in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, protested against President Javier Milei’s proposed reform package, turning the city into a battlefield. The demonstrators gathered in front of the Congress building to voice their opposition to the economic reform proposal.
Leftist groups were among those who took to the streets, clashing with the police. The protesters accused President Javier Milei of being a dictator, while also arguing that the proposed regulation would lead to the privatization of state institutions.
Milei’s reform proposals aim to implement liberal policies to tackle the worst economic crisis in decades in a country where inflation has reached 200 percent. In order to address these issues, Milei promised to cut the public budget and reduce state control when he came to power with the elections last December.
Despite his promises, Milei’s ruling coalition is a minority in both houses of Congress. If the package passes the lower house of Congress, it will be discussed in the Senate next week.
