Ukraine Reports Intensified Russian Attacks, Disputes Over Downed Plane
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated in the past 24 hours, with Ukrainian officials reporting increased attacks and combat clashes with Russian forces, particularly near Ukraine’s Tavria region. General Oleksandr Tarnavskiy, the Ukrainian commander in the Tavria zone, stated that Russian forces had significantly increased the number of offensive and assault operations over the past two days, with 50 combat clashes reported daily.
Meanwhile, the dispute over the circumstances surrounding the January 24 crash of a Russian military transport plane continues. The Kremlin claimed that the plane was carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war and was shot down by Ukrainian forces. However, Kyiv has denied these claims, stating that they have no proof of prisoners being aboard the plane and have not confirmed that their forces shot it down.
The Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces launched eight missile and four air strikes, as well as 78 attacks from rocket-salvo systems on Ukrainian troop positions and populated areas. This resulted in the destruction or damage of civilian infrastructure, including high-rise residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, and a shopping center.
On the diplomatic front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced the creation of a second body to assist businesses in the war-torn country, called the All-Ukraine Economic Platform. This is in addition to the Council for the Support of Entrepreneurship announced earlier, aimed at strengthening the country’s economy amidst the ongoing conflict.
Despite the ongoing clashes and disputes, there are international efforts to support Ukraine in seeking peace. The United States has voiced its commitment to promoting a peace formula put forward by President Zelenskiy, which includes the withdrawal of Russian forces and the restoration of Ukrainian territorial integrity.
