At least 16 Palestinian prisoners killed by Israel in Gaza
The head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Delegation, Kaddura Faris, recently spoke out against the violent attacks faced by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention centers. In a press conference held at the government’s Prisoners’ Affairs Institution in Ramallah on “April 17 Palestine Prisoners’ Day”, Faris highlighted the brutal tactics being used by Israel against Palestinian captives.
Faris noted that since October 7, Palestinian prisoners have been subjected to unprecedented levels of violence, with 16 identified and numerous unidentified captives being killed in Gaza alone. He condemned Israel’s actions as a genocidal war against the Palestinian people, particularly focusing on the atrocities taking place in Gaza.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Board had previously released a statement describing Israeli detention centers and prisons as “a complete slaughterhouse” after October 7, with reports of torture and beatings being widespread. The situation has only worsened since the Israeli army’s attack on the Gaza Strip, leading to increased detentions, raids, and attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The number of Palestinians detained in the West Bank and East Jerusalem has reached 7,630 since October 7, highlighting the ongoing human rights violations faced by Palestinian prisoners. As Faris and other advocates continue to speak out against Israel’s actions, the international community is urged to take action to protect the rights and dignity of Palestinian detainees.
