Attacker of Judge in USA Faces Trial with Special Precautions
Defendant who attacked judge after being denied probation sentenced to 4 years in prison
Deobra Delone Redden, the 30-year-old defendant who attacked a judge in the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada, last week, has been sentenced to 4 years in prison. Redden, who was brought to the courtroom with special precautions, had his hands chained to his body and a mask on his head.
Judge Mary Kay Holthus, who was attacked by Redden at the previous hearing, made the decision to sentence him to 4 years in prison due to the accusation against him. Holthus emphasized that the previous sentence had not been changed due to Redden’s actions and that the charge he was facing for the attack against him would be handled by another judge.
Redden had previously been sentenced to 4 years in prison for attacking a person with a baseball bat last year. He is also expected to appear in court on Tuesday for attacking another person.
Last week, Redden had requested probation during his arraignment on charges of aggravated assault. When his request was rejected by Judge Mary Kay Holthus, Redden reacted violently, swearing and jumping on the judge from the courtroom. The judge was slightly injured during the attack, and a court officer who intervened was hospitalized.
Redden was then sent to the Clark County Detention Center and is now facing new serious charges, including battery. The hearing for the recent attack on another individual is scheduled for Tuesday. The defendant’s violent outburst in court has led to severe consequences, and the legal process continues to unfold.
