Baby Rushed into Surgery After Complaint of Constant Vomiting
Title: Three-Day-Old Baby Undergoes Successful Surgery After Diagnosed with a Rare Condition
Date: October 17, 2023
A three-day-old baby named İnan recently underwent surgery at Şırnak Maternity and Children’s Hospital after being diagnosed with a rare condition. The baby had experienced constant vomiting soon after birth, leading to concern among medical professionals.
İnan was initially taken to the neonatal intensive care unit for monitoring. Pediatric Surgery Specialist, Dr. Serdest Teğin, examined the patient and concluded that there was no gas passage beyond the duodenum. Further diagnostic tests revealed that the baby’s duodenum had not developed properly in the womb.
The medical team discussed the risks of surgery with the family, and upon their consent, performed the operation at Şırnak Maternity and Children’s Hospital. The surgery took place when İnan was only three days old. The procedure involved repairing the underdeveloped duodenum that had caused feeding difficulties.
Following the surgery, İnan was unable to be fed for three days. However, on the fifth day after the operation, the baby began to pass stool and was gradually introduced to breast milk. By the seventh day after the surgery, İnan’s nutrition had improved significantly, and the baby was discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Serdest Teğin, speaking to the Ihlas News Agency, explained that conditions like the closure of the duodenum at birth are rare and often present symptoms after delivery. He mentioned that further examinations confirmed the issue with İnan’s duodenum and subsequently led to the decision of performing surgery.
Dr. Teğin emphasized the importance of expertise in neonatal surgery, stressing that both the anesthesia and pediatrics teams need to be skilled and dedicated. He expressed gratitude to his entire team for the successful completion of the surgery.
Going forward, Dr. Teğin hopes that such specialized surgeries can be conducted in larger and possibly regional centers with even safer conditions. This would ensure that infants with similar conditions receive the best care possible.
The case of İnan serves as a testament to the advancements in neonatal surgery and the effectiveness of the medical team at Şırnak Maternity and Children’s Hospital.
