Backlash Swiftly Followed Quran Attack in Sweden
Sweden Faces International Criticism After Qur’an Desecration Incident
A recent incident in Sweden has sparked outrage and condemnation from around the world. The Qur’an was desecrated in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm, leading to widespread criticism and calls for action.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the act, expressing disappointment in the Swedish authorities for allowing such provocative acts to take place. Hüseyin İbrahim Taha, the Secretary General of the OIC, called for stricter measures against extremist groups and individuals.
Pakistan also voiced its condemnation of the attack, stressing that deliberate acts of religious hatred should not be justified under the guise of freedom of expression, thought, and protest. The country firmly stood against such actions and called for accountability.
Saudi Arabia joined the chorus of criticism, labeling Sweden’s decision to allow the attack as “irresponsible.” Iran, on the other hand, summoned the Swedish Ambassador to Tehran to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signaling its strong dissatisfaction with the incident.
The desecration of the Qur’an also triggered protests in Iraq. Demonstrators gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square to express their outrage over the scandalous action.
Even the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, spoke out against the attack. He conveyed his solidarity with the Muslim community and condemned the act of desecration.
This incident has once again highlighted the importance of respecting religious beliefs and the need to prevent such acts of provocation and hatred. International pressure continues to mount on Sweden, urging the authorities to take decisive action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
