President Ersin Tatar made a statement about the action of the United Nations Peace Force (UNFICYP) soldier against the Turkish soldier who was cleaning the military zone within the borders of TRNC in Nicosia.

President Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriot side did not welcome the misbehavior of the UNBG soldier and said, “An investigation was launched upon our complaint and we are following up.”

Stating that they want to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriots to the end, President Tatar emphasized that the authorities of the Republic of Turkey, especially the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, are on the side of the Turkish Cypriots.

President Tatar stated that there is a buffer zone under the control of the UNBG between the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on the island of Cyprus.

Stating that the UNBG is trying to prevent the Pile-Yiğitler road work that will start from the TRNC border, President Tatar noted that the UN’s action in the region that has been under the control of the TRNC since 1974 casts a shadow on the impartiality of the UN.

President Tatar pointed out that in similar cases in favor of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, the UN has turned a blind eye to the construction of roads, houses, universities and shopping malls in the buffer zone by granting privileges, and said, “They are standing by and watching the efforts of the Greek Cypriot Administration to take the buffer zone into its own territory by accepting it as a territory.”

President Tatar pointed out that in a way, the UN is responsible for the Cyprus issue, with the unilateral recognition of the Makarios government of the period as the Republic of Cyprus, which excluded the Turkish Cypriots from the Republic of Cyprus with the UN decision no. 186 on March 4, 1964.

President Tatar stated that negotiations on the acceptance of sovereign equality and equal status will begin in the future talks and that the agreement in Cyprus will be made with the cooperation of two states, and noted that the elimination of the TRNC and the integration of the Turkish Cypriots into the Greek Republic is unacceptable.

Stating that Turkey supports the political stance of the Turkish Cypriot side, President Tatar added that the authorities of the Republic of Turkey confirm this situation on every platform.
