Beijing Launches First Railway Freight Route to Central Asia
On March 19, 2025, Beijing made history by inaugurating its first railway freight route to Central Asia. A report by Xinhua News Agency, citing the Beijing Bureau of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., announced the departure of a freight train from the suburban Fangshan district bound for Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The train was filled with 90 standard containers carrying a variety of goods, including auto parts, pharmaceuticals, and other commodities produced in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The journey to Tashkent is expected to take approximately 14 days, with the train passing through the Khorgos port of entry in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The launch of this new railway route signifies a significant step in enhancing logistics between China and Central Asia. It also aligns with China’s “Belt and Road Initiative,” a development strategy aimed at promoting economic cooperation and infrastructure development among participating countries.
