Alexander Lukashenko Wins Belarus Presidential Election with 87.6% of Votes
The incumbent President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has secured a landslide victory in the country’s presidential election, according to exit poll results. The BELTA agency reported that Lukashenko received 87.6% of the votes, ensuring his re-election.
Polling stations across Belarus closed at 8:00 PM local time, with the Central Election Commission (CEC) reporting a voter turnout of 85.7% at the time of closing. Early voting in the election saw 41.81% of eligible citizens casting their ballots.
Other candidates in the presidential race included Oleg Gaidukevich with 1.8% of the votes, Anna Kanopatskaya with 1.6%, Sergey Syrrankov with 2.7%, and Alexander Khizhnyak with 1.2%. Additionally, 5.1% of voters chose to cast their ballots against all candidates.
The final press conference of the CEC, titled “On the Preliminary Results of the Presidential Election of the Republic of Belarus,” is scheduled to take place on January 27.
The outcome of the election solidifies Lukashenko’s position as the long-standing leader of Belarus, a role he has held since 1994. The results of the election have sparked both celebrations and criticisms within the country and internationally.
With a clear mandate from the Belarusian people, Alexander Lukashenko is set to continue his presidency and lead the nation into the future.
