Promising Results of Biontech’s Cancer Vaccine Unveiled at ESMO Congress
Madrid, Spain – Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci, the founders of biotechnology company Biontech, revealed the first encouraging outcomes of their 15-year research on a cancer vaccine during the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress held in the capital city of Spain.
The eagerly anticipated CARVac, Biontech’s cancer vaccine, has shown remarkable potential in halting tumor growth and even reducing tumor size, according to the initial results shared at the congress.
44 patients participating in the study received four doses of the vaccine, leading to a remarkable 30 percent reduction in tumor size for 59 percent of the subjects. Furthermore, nearly 95 percent of the patients experienced stable cancer, with their tumors ceasing to grow after receiving the vaccine.
Nevertheless, it was noted that during the administration of the vaccine, 23 of the patients showed dose-dependent increased inflammatory reactions, with some experiencing side effects such as low blood pressure and elevated fever.
Biontech, driven by its ambition to revolutionize cancer treatment, aims to provide this promising vaccine to around 10,000 cancer patients by 2030.
