Blinken Urges Ceasefire in Saudi Arabia to Alleviate Humanitarian Crisis

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s Middle East tour continues with upcoming visits to Jordan and Israel. After his diplomatic contacts in Saudi Arabia, Blinken’s next destinations have been announced. According to a statement from the US State Department, Blinken will be visiting Jordan and Israel until Wednesday as part of his ongoing tour.
During his stop in Saudi Arabia, Blinken emphasized the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He noted that there has been “measurable progress” in the situation in Gaza in recent weeks but called on Israel to do more to alleviate the crisis. Blinken highlighted the need for a ceasefire as the most effective way to mitigate the ongoing humanitarian issues in Gaza.
The US Secretary of State also mentioned Washington’s efforts to prevent the conflict in Gaza from escalating further. He emphasized the importance of taking concrete steps to improve the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
Blinken’s visit to Israel is expected to put pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fulfill the demands set by US President Joe Biden earlier this month. The focus will be on taking necessary actions to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Before heading to Jordan and Israel, Blinken attended the Gulf Cooperation Council Ministerial Meeting and the World Economic Forum’s special meeting on energy for Global Cooperation, growth, and development in Saudi Arabia.
