Tajikistan and Turkmenistan Strengthen Cultural Ties
In a continuation of centuries-old traditions of friendship and humanism, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have been working to strengthen their cultural ties. The year 2024 saw a significant boost in cooperation between the two countries, as they celebrated the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker, Magtymguly Fragi.
An article by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, Niyatbekzoda Vafo Alibek, highlighted Tajikistan’s active support of Turkmenistan’s initiatives during the celebrations. International conferences, round tables, and the opening of a secondary school named after Magtymguly Fragi in Tajikistan were just a few examples of the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
During the International Forum honoring Fragi’s anniversary, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan emphasized the importance of the Turkmen poet’s work in relation to the Tajik-Persian literary heritage. In a reciprocal gesture, Ashgabat unveiled a monument of the Tajik poet and thinker, Sayido Nasafi, in the “Magtymguly Pyragy” cultural and park complex, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two peoples.
The official visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, to Tajikistan in April 2024 further solidified the commitment to deepening bilateral ties. Five new cooperation agreements were signed during the visit, setting the stage for enhanced collaboration between the two countries.
The Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Tajikistan, featuring concerts, exhibitions, and presentations of books by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, showcased the richness of Turkmen culture and further strengthened cultural exchange between the two nations.
The longstanding principles of creation, humanism, and peacefulness serve as a strong foundation for Tajik-Turkmen interaction, with cultural diplomacy playing a crucial role in bringing the two peoples closer together.
