BREAKING NEWS: 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Sivas
Sivas Shaken by 4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Following Malatya’s 5.9 Magnitude Quake
Following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Malatya yesterday, Sivas experienced a 4.7 magnitude earthquake today. The earthquake, with the epicenter in Sivas-Central, was recorded at 11:29 Türkiye time at a depth of 19.57 kilometers underground.
According to Earthquake Expert Süleyman Pampal, the earthquakes in Malatya and Sivas are not related as they occur on different fault lines. The region has been active, with aftershocks increasing seismic activity after the major ruptures caused by previous earthquakes.
Sivas has a history of destructive earthquakes, and the fault zone in the region has the potential to produce earthquakes above 7 magnitude. The recent earthquakes in Sivas occurred at a significant depth, reducing their destructive impact.
In a surprising turn of events, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 struck Sivas just 10 minutes after the initial tremor. Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek assured that field scanning efforts are ongoing, and no negative situations have been reported so far.
While there was some panic and precautionary measures were taken, including evacuating students from schools, no significant damage has been reported. The Governor also mentioned feeling the earthquake in Malatya, although its impact was not as severe as the recent tremors in Sivas.
As the region remains active, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents in Sivas.
