Two More Suspects Arrested in Minguzzi Investigation
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the tragic death of 18-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, authorities have arrested two additional suspects identified as Mad and A.Ö. The arrests were made by the Public Security Branch Directorate in the Kadıköy District of Istanbul, following extensive investigative efforts.
Details of the Case
The suspects, Mad and A.Ö., were taken into custody and brought to the Anatolian Courthouse, where they faced serious charges. Prosecutors have alleged that the duo played a crucial role in the events leading up to Minguzzi’s death, specifically for their involvement in a "deliberate killing" and assisting in the act of violence.
Court documents indicate that Mad and A.Ö. acted in coordination with previously identified suspects, BB and UB. It is claimed that during the initial confrontation, BB encouraged the attack on Minguzzi and assisted in subduing the victim.
Incident Overview
On January 24, Minguzzi was at the market in the Hasanpaşa neighborhood to purchase materials for skateboarding when a dispute erupted between BB and UB. During the altercation, BB allegedly stabbed Minguzzi and kicked him as he fell to the ground. Despite the immediate response from law enforcement, and the rapid arrest of the two suspects, Minguzzi sustained severe injuries.
After being rushed to the hospital, he was placed in the intensive care unit, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on February 9.
Legal Proceedings
In light of the repeated incidents of youth violence and the serious nature of the crime, the prosecutor’s office sought arrest warrants for the new suspects on grounds of the ongoing risk they pose to public safety and their involvement in the violent act. A decision was made to imprison Mad and A.Ö. pending further legal action.
Moreover, BB and UB have been charged with "deliberate killing against a child" and face potential sentences of up to 18 years in prison under Turkish law.
The Anatolian 2nd Children’s High Criminal Court continues to delve into the complexities of the case, including the involvement of additional suspects and the circumstances that led to this tragic incident. As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on high alert to the troubling issue of youth violence.
Authorities are committed to pursuing justice for Minguzzi’s family and ensuring accountability for all involved in this heinous crime.
