Growing Emphasis on ESG Standards at the ITSE Exhibition in Ashgabat
The final day of the International Trade and Services Exhibition (ITSE) in Ashgabat featured a significant seminar focusing on environmental protection, social relations, and corporate governance—collectively known as ESG standards. The session was led by Kongkona Sarma, founder of Sidona Green Ltd., a British company specializing in sustainability.
During the seminar, participants explored the critical role of ESG standards in ensuring compliance for businesses in Turkmenistan. These criteria, which emphasize a company’s environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices, are increasingly influential in assessing business sustainability and ethics on a global scale. Investors, banks, and international partners now prioritize these factors when making decisions, assessing how responsibly companies manage ecological issues, workforce welfare, and transparency in governance.
Understanding and implementing ESG principles offers Turkmen companies new opportunities, including the attraction of "green" investments and access to markets that mandate adherence to these standards.
The high level of interest in ESG among local businesses was evident at the seminar. Sidona Green Ltd.’s involvement extends beyond educational initiatives; it recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Turkmen Financial Center "Ygtybarly" to focus on ESG certification. This partnership marks a significant shift from discussion to action in integrating ESG practices within Turkmenistan.
The seminar enhanced knowledge among Turkmen specialists about international ESG requirements, positioning them to boost sustainable development and increase competitiveness on the world stage.
