British Minister pledges ongoing review of arms sales to Israel

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron recently addressed concerns about arms sales licenses to Israel, stating that 114 licenses were granted in 2022. With ongoing reports of war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza, Cameron was asked if Britain plans to suspend arms exports to Israel in light of International Court of Justice decisions.
Cameron emphasized that Britain has strict regulations in place for arms exports, operating in accordance with international humanitarian law. He stated that arms exports to Israel are regularly reviewed within the legal framework, with a commitment to continue doing so.
Regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s post-war plan for Gaza, Cameron stressed the need to prioritize ending the conflict. He proposed releasing prisoners and establishing a government under Palestinian administration, calling for a new political vision within the context of a two-state solution. Cameron also highlighted the importance of dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Gaza.
Netanyahu’s plan, presented following attacks in the Gaza Strip, includes disarmament of Gaza, maintaining security for Israel and the closure of UNRWA. The plan aims to maintain Israel’s security and military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, creating a buffer zone on the Egypt-Gaza border to prevent smuggling.
In response to Netanyahu’s plan, Cameron expressed doubts about its effectiveness, stating that it lacks assurance for Israeli security and a state for the Palestinian people. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive political solution that addresses the concerns of both parties.
As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, Cameron’s remarks shed light on the complexities of the conflict and the challenges in finding a sustainable resolution.
