BRTK Working Women’s Fair: Empowering the Future Through Labor
Producer women from the CTP Women’s Organization in Girne District recently came together at the Working Women’s Fair with the theme “Our Loom is Labor, What We Weave is the Future!” The event showcased handmade products from women in over fifty stands, along with various shows and activities throughout the day.
In addition to the handmade products, women writers also had the opportunity to sign their books at the fair, and there was a special corner dedicated to the memory of CTP member Gülseren Ataker, where participants could express their feelings for her.
During the event, CTP Women’s Organization President Doğuş Derya highlighted the importance of feminist solidarity and the fight for justice, equality, and peace in a united Cyprus. Derya also pointed out the challenges faced by women, especially during times of conservative governance, where resources were often shifted to private companies instead of public benefit, leading to increased inequalities for women.
Furthermore, CTP Women’s Organization Kyrenia District President Özay Kalyoncu reflected on the history of the fair, which has been organized for the 11th time. Kalyoncu emphasized the efforts made by CTP women in advocating for equality in social, economic, and political spheres, stating that their work has left a lasting impact on the progress of women’s rights and empowerment.
Overall, the Working Women’s Fair served as a platform for women to showcase their talents, support one another, and continue the ongoing fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Cyprus.
