
Budapest Police Take Action Against over 50 Protesters Blocking Szabadság Bridge

The Budapest municipal police have taken action against more than 50 individuals following an unauthorized gathering that caused disruption on the Szabadság bridge in downtown Budapest. According to a statement on the official police website, the participants initially blocked traffic at Ferenciek Square near the Pest end of Elisabeth Bridge before moving to Szabadság bridge and disrupting traffic there as well.
In response to the situation, the police diverted traffic in the affected areas to ensure traffic safety. Despite several warnings, the protesters were eventually removed from the road and onto the pavement. The police checked the identification of 140 individuals and initiated legal procedures against several of them.
Two procedures were launched on suspicion of abuse of the right of assembly, one for a misdemeanor related to the use of pyrotechnics, and 51 for traffic misdemeanors. The police are cracking down on these violations to maintain order and safety in the city.
