Heavy rainfall in Ankara leads to flooding, Governor Şahin gives update

Governor Şahin of Ankara recently addressed the media on Kazım Karabekir Street to provide an update on the heavy rainfall that has been affecting the city.

Expressing his concerns for the well-being of the people of Ankara, Şahin reassured that there have been no reported casualties due to the heavy rain. However, he mentioned that some underpasses, known as battıçıktı, have been blocked in certain areas as a result of the rain, with teams currently working to clear them.

All emergency response teams, including those from AFAD Directorate, the Police Department, diver teams, diver rescue teams from the General Directorate of Security, the municipality’s fire brigade, ASKI personnel, and other relevant units, are actively involved in addressing the aftermath of the heavy rainfall in Ankara.

Governor Şahin highlighted that approximately 1330 flood reports have been received, with 950 cases already intervened and 350 cases currently being addressed. The rainfall seems to be particularly concentrated in the Yenimahalle district, but teams are working diligently across all districts.

With previous warnings about heavy rain in the region, Governor Şahin emphasized the need for citizens to exercise caution and attentiveness. He also mentioned that measures to handle future rainfall will be increased in response to forecasts.

The efforts of all emergency response teams are focused on ensuring a swift and effective response to the flooding in Ankara, with the hope that the rain will subside soon and the situation will improve rapidly for the citizens.
