CAS Upholds Russian Olympic Committee’s Objection – Breaking Sports News
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld the decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the activities of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) until further notice. The IOC’s decision to suspend the ROC was based on the recognition of organizations in certain regions of Ukraine, deemed as a violation of the Olympic Agreement.
The ROC now has the right to appeal against the CAS decision to the Swiss Federal Court within the next 30 days. However, until a final decision is made, the ROC will not be able to operate as a national committee and will not receive any funding.
In the meantime, Russian athletes will be allowed to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics as neutral athletes. This means that Russian flags, emblems, and anthems will not be permitted during the games.
The IOC’s decision to suspend the ROC underscores the importance of upholding the principles of the Olympic movement and ensuring fair play in all international sporting events.
