The incident, which occurred at the Shahid Rajaee part of the port complex, unleashed a massive plume of thick gray smoke, as captured in video footage verified by CNN.
Iran’s Minister of Interior, Eskandar Momeni, announced that six people remain unaccounted for as firefighters battle to extinguish the blaze, facing difficulties due to strong winds. While an official cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani indicated that the blast likely originated from chemicals stored in containers at the port.
