Chery Car Owner Still Receiving Aid: 20,000 Families Removed from Benefits Registry

The Prosecutor General’s Office Takes Action to Remove Thousands of Families from Social Assistance Registry

In 2024, the Prosecutor General’s Office in Uzbekistan implemented control measures that resulted in the removal of thousands of families from the social assistance registry. These families were found to be receiving benefits despite owning assets such as retail shops, livestock, or personal vehicles. Simultaneously, over 5,000 families facing significant social challenges, but previously excluded from the registry, were added to the state social protection program.

During a briefing at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications (AIMC) held on January 31, Hayot Shamsuddinov, the head of the information service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, highlighted the office’s work in 2024. He emphasized the efforts to uphold the rule of law, protect citizens’ rights, and prevent crime in the country.

Shamsuddinov reported that the prosecutor’s office took targeted measures to reduce poverty, providing assistance to nearly 2 million families. With the support of employment initiatives, many families were able to improve their living conditions.

As part of the control measures, a total of 20,129 families were removed from the social assistance registry in 2024, preventing the disbursement of 32 billion UZS from the national budget. Examples were shared of cases where citizens were found to own assets like cattle, retail shops, or vehicles while still receiving social benefits. These families were promptly removed from the registry.

Moreover, over 5,000 families in need who had not previously been registered for social assistance were included in the program and granted state support.

In addition to the efforts to address social assistance, Shamsuddinov shared the following information on employment in 2024:

– 489 citizens received a total of 3.8 billion UZS in delayed wages;
– 78 cases of embezzlement involving 11.2 billion UZS in wages and equivalent payments were uncovered, with those responsible held accountable;
– 862,350 falsely reported new job positions were detected, leading to appropriate corrective actions;
– 4.7 billion UZS in damages were voluntarily recovered, and 31.2 billion UZS worth of 2,185 lawsuits were filed in courts to protect citizens’ rights.

The Prosecutor General’s Office continues its efforts to safeguard the well-being of citizens, uphold the rule of law, and combat social assistance fraud in Uzbekistan.
