China Achieves Record Oil and Gas Production of Over 400 Million Tons

China Achieves Record Oil and Gas Production in 2024

In a significant milestone for the country, China’s oil and gas production in 2024 surpassed 400 million tons of oil equivalent for the first time. According to the Xinhua News Agency, data from the National Energy Administration of China revealed this achievement.

Crude oil production in China reached 213 million tons, showing an increase of 24 million tons compared to 2018. Meanwhile, natural gas production totaled 246.4 billion cubic meters, with an annual average increase of over 13 billion cubic meters in the past six years. The growth in production can be attributed to offshore oil and gas extraction as well as the utilization of unconventional sources like shale oil and gas. For example, shale oil production in 2024 soared to 6 million tons, marking a growth of more than 30% from the previous year. Furthermore, shale gas production exceeded 25 billion cubic meters.

These achievements underscore China’s commitment to enhancing its energy independence and fostering the development of new technologies for hydrocarbon extraction.
