China Completes Construction of World’s Largest Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Station

China has officially opened the largest pumped-storage hydroelectric power station in the world, as reported by China Daily.

The final unit of the “Fengning” power station, located in Chengde City, Hebei Province, has begun operating. With a capacity of 3.6 million kW, the facility is expected to generate 6.61 billion kWh of electricity annually. Some of the power units at the station were previously launched in 2021.

Experts believe that the “Fengning” power station will be crucial in providing electricity during peak consumption hours while storing energy during times of lower demand. The facility has set multiple world records, including the amount of energy it can store and the size of its underground power units, according to China Daily. It is estimated that Fengning will save 480,800 tons of coal equivalent in fuel and help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.2 million tons per year.

This new addition to China’s energy infrastructure is a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future. The “Fengning” power station showcases China’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental protection, leading the way in the global effort to combat climate change.
