China set to make shopping more attractive for foreign tourists in the Orient

China’s Ministry of Commerce has unveiled new measures to encourage shopping among foreign tourists, making the shopping experience in China more enjoyable. The "Visit China, Shop China" program aims to boost consumer activity by increasing the number of duty-free shops and simplifying the VAT refund process for non-residents.
In addition to these initiatives, promotional activities will be rolled out for purchasers of environmentally friendly, smart, and medical products. The state trade-in subsidy program, which has seen a doubling of funding to forty billion dollars this year, has already received over 1.5 million applications for the exchange of old vehicles.
Chinese consumers have taken advantage of the program by upgrading over 2.2 million electric bicycles, 28 million household appliances, and more than 56 million mobile digital devices. This has contributed to a 4% year-on-year growth in retail sales in January-February, with the ministry committed to further enhancing the program’s effectiveness.
Li Gang, Director of the Department of Market Operation and Consumption Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, emphasized the importance of ensuring the efficient implementation of subsidy programs, monitoring, and optimizing convenience for citizens, improving recycling chains, and intensifying information efforts to ensure that funds reach consumers in a timely and convenient manner.
Overall, the measures announced by the Ministry of Commerce aim to make shopping in China a more attractive and rewarding experience for foreign tourists, contributing to the growth of the retail sector in the country.
