This month, universities across China have started offering artificial intelligence (AI) courses that are grounded in the technologies developed by the Chinese startup DeepSeek.
Considered a significant moment for China, the introduction of these courses highlights the groundbreaking work of DeepSeek in the AI field. The startup, headquartered in Hangzhou, has garnered praise from experts in Silicon Valley who believe that its DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 models rival the advancements seen from companies like OpenAI and Meta.
Shenzhen University has already announced the launch of a course that will delve into key AI technologies while addressing issues related to security, privacy, and ethics. Moreover, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have also started incorporating DeepSeek-based courses into their curriculum. These efforts align with China’s national strategy to establish a robust educational system by 2035, with the goal of enhancing both the quality and accessibility of education.
Recently, Liang Wenfeng, the founder of DeepSeek, met with President Xi Jinping and other influential figures in the technology sector. This meeting underscored the startup’s significance within China’s economy and technological landscape.
