
Civil Activist Arrested for Extortion in Issyk-Kul Region

Bishkek – State Committee for National Security officers have recently made an arrest of a civil activist who is a member of the Public Association Eco World. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) has reported on this incident.
The detained individual, identified as M.N., is believed to have initiated statements to higher authorities, intimidated employees of state bodies in the Issyk-Kul region, and extorted money from them in order to halt inspections. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that M.N. had set up a scheme to receive the extorted funds through multiple mobile wallets in an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.
On March 13, M.N. was apprehended while receiving 52,000 soms from an employee of the Issyk-Kul Department of the Environmental and Technical Supervision Service. Following his arrest, he was placed in pre-trial detention center No. 23 in Karakol.
