Collaboration Between Uzbekistan and Spain Strengthens Textile Sector Through Joint Ventures and Expos

A delegation from Uzbekistan, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade as well as leaders of textile companies, recently conducted a series of productive meetings with major Spanish firms in Madrid. The purpose of these meetings was to explore potential collaborations and opportunities for promoting Uzbek textile products in the Spanish market.
The Spanish firms were provided with detailed information on the recent reforms in Uzbekistan’s textile industry, the export capabilities of local producers, and the possibilities for future partnerships. Catalogs and product samples were showcased to give a firsthand look at the high-quality products available from Uzbekistan.
One notable outcome of the meetings was the agreement to establish a trade house for Uzbekistan in Madrid, where a variety of Uzbek textile products will be featured. Discussions with Alejandro Pastrana, CEO of Gedepsa, focused on strategies for promoting Uzbek goods in the Spanish market, with plans to launch pilot projects to test products with Spanish consumers.
International consultant Albert Hernandez also engaged in discussions with the Uzbek delegation, offering insights on promoting Uzbek products, addressing logistics and distribution challenges, and facilitating contacts with Spanish fashion companies. Hernandez expressed eagerness to support Uzbek producers in participating in Spanish tenders.
Furthermore, productive talks were held with global procurement departments of El Corte Inglés and Tendam to explore opportunities for featuring Uzbek textile products in retail chains. The Uzbek delegation highlighted the latest trends in the country’s textile industry, the availability of international certifications, and the benefits of exporting to the EU under the “GSP+” system.
As a result of these meetings, Spanish companies expressed interest in collaboration and indicated a willingness to participate in international textile exhibitions scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in the fall of 2024. This promising development signals the potential for enhanced cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain in the textile industry, paving the way for mutually beneficial partnerships in the future.
