Colombia Strengthens Ties with Turkmenistan: New Ambassador Presents Credentials
On April 28, 2025, Hector Isidro Arenas Neyra, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Turkmenistan, officially presented his credentials to Dunyagozel Gulmanova, the Speaker of the Turkmenistan National Parliament. The meeting marked an important step in fostering diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During the ceremony, Gulmanova conveyed warm congratulations from the President of Turkmenistan, expressing hopes for the Ambassador’s success in enhancing bilateral cooperation. The discussions encompassed key aspects of Turkmenistan’s domestic policies and its commitment to a peaceful foreign policy, along with insights into the functioning of the Mejlis, Turkmenistan’s legislative body.
Both parties acknowledged the effective collaboration within international organizations, signaling a commitment to mutual support for various initiatives promoted through the United Nations. There was a shared recognition of the significant potential for experience exchange in areas like national legislation and parliamentary procedures.
Following the credential presentation, Ambassador Arenas Neyra met with Myahri Byashimova, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Their conversation focused on the possibility of arranging political consultations between the foreign ministries of both countries. They also discussed establishing an Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to foster closer ties between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and Colombia’s Congress.
The Deputy Minister expressed keen interest in the Colombian participation at an upcoming international forum scheduled for December 12, 2025, in Ashgabat. This event will celebrate the International Year of Peace and Trust and commemorate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
Through these diplomatic engagements, there is optimism for a bright future in Turkmenistan-Colombia relations, underscored by a commitment to peace, cooperation, and shared values.
