CHP Concludes Provincial Congresses and Prepares for General Presidential Race
The provincial congresses of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), which began in August, came to a close today. With the completion of the Bitlis provincial congress, the party has successfully conducted congresses in all 81 provinces. Within the scope of the congress calendar, a total of 1370 congress delegates and 81 provincial presidents have been determined.
So far, the CHP has organized 56 congresses, of which 19 were extraordinary. The 38th Ordinary Congress is scheduled to take place on November 4-5 at Ankara Sports Hall. The preparation process for the congress will be carried out by CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol and his 10 deputies.
The upcoming congress on November 4-5 will witness the election of the party’s chairman on the first day. On the second day, the election of the members of the Party Assembly (PM) and the High Disciplinary Board will take place. The elections are expected to be conducted using the “block list” and “zipper” methods.
If a candidate is nominated by the party delegates, there will be a presidential race between the current Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Manisa Deputy Özgür Özel. To become a candidate for the chairmanship of the CHP, the support of at least 5 percent of the delegates is required.
Moreover, the writing of the CHP’s new statute and party program is still ongoing. It is anticipated that the CHP’s statute congress will be held two weeks after the 38th Ordinary Congress. During the charter congress, discussions will focus on implementing changes to modernize the party charter.
