Construction begins on Tuprakkala solar power plant

Shavkat Mirziyoyev Launches Construction of 100 MW Photovoltaic Station in Khorezm Region

During a recent visit to the Khorezm region on February 29, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev oversaw the launch of the construction of a new photovoltaic station with a capacity of 100 megawatts. The project is being spearheaded by the French company Voltalia and is set to make a significant impact on the region’s energy landscape.

The construction of the solar power plant, located in the Tuprakkala district, marks a crucial step towards achieving the country’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy sources in its electricity generation. President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of stability in the energy industry and highlighted the role of renewable energy in modern development and economic diversification.

The new station is expected to generate 254 million kWh of “green energy” annually, covering 11% of the region’s electricity consumption. By connecting the station to the network by the end of the year, Uzbekistan aims to boost its overall electricity generation in Khorezm by 30% and fully satisfy the energy needs of the Tuprakkala region.

Furthermore, the project will enable the transfer of excess energy to neighboring areas, ensuring a stable electricity supply for approximately 85 thousand households. In addition to its energy benefits, the station will save 76 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the release of 106 thousand tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

One notable feature of the project is the incorporation of agrovoltaics, a technique that combines energy production and agriculture in the same location. By allowing crops to be grown under solar panels, this innovative approach demonstrates a commitment to sustainable practices and efficient land use.

Overall, the construction of the photovoltaic station in Khorezm represents a significant milestone in Uzbekistan’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable energy future. President Mirziyoyev’s leadership in promoting renewable energy initiatives underscores the country’s dedication to environmental preservation and long-term resource management.
