Deceased donor Rüveyda’s organs bring hope to 2 patients
A tragic accident occurred on July 28 at around 21:00 on Menderes Street in the Hürriyet Neighborhood. The driver of a car, identified as EY (19), lost control of the vehicle on a bend and collided with a parked truck. The car, with registration number 35 AKJ 800, crashed into the truck with the registration number 35 ZND 01. As a result of the accident, EY and passengers GA (18), YY (18), and Rüveyda Berra Acar (18) sustained injuries.
The injured individuals were promptly taken to Ödemiş State Hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, Rüveyda Berra Acar’s condition was critical, and she was transferred to Katip Çelebi University İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. Tragically, Acar experienced brain death the following day. Despite this heartbreaking loss, her family decided to donate her kidneys and corneas. The organs were successfully transplanted into two patients in need, providing hope and a second chance at life.
Acar’s funeral took place today at noon at the Ödemiş Hamdibey Mosque, followed by her burial in the Ahrandı Cemetery. The community mourns the loss of a young life but finds solace in knowing that her selfless act has helped others in need.
