Meeting Held with Turkish Consul Regarding Detention of Kyrgyz Citizen in Istanbul
A meeting with the Consul of the Embassy of Turkey regarding the detention of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul was recently held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, as reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, a verbal note from the ministry was presented with a request to provide official information on the incident and to ensure urgent consular access to the detained citizen of Kyrgyzstan in accordance with the Vienna Convention.
The Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul has already assisted in finding a lawyer and organized a meeting with representatives of the Turkish authorities. The safety of the Olympiad participants and their return to Kyrgyzstan is being closely monitored by the Foreign Ministry.
The first group of schoolchildren has already returned home, with the remaining expected to follow suit in the near future. The consulate staff is maintaining constant communication with the citizens of Kyrgyzstan and the relatives of the detainee.
Azamat Nurmat uulu, a mathematics teacher at the Kuseyn Karasayev lyceum in Issyk-Kul region, was detained in Turkey while accompanying six of his students to the International Mathematical Olympiad in Antalya. Since his detention on April 20, the 32-year-old teacher has not been reachable, according to reports from his relatives. The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities in Kyrgyzstan.
