Ancient Ruins Unearthed During Hıdırlık Tower Excavations in Antalya
Exciting discoveries have been made during archaeological excavations near the Hıdırlık Tower in Antalya. The Metropolitan Municipality initiated the excavations in 2020 with the aim of transforming the tower into a cultural and tourist attraction center. As a result, ancient ruins and structures have been uncovered, shedding light on the history of the region.
The “Hıdırlık Tower Surroundings Archaeological Excavation and Observation Terrace Project” is currently underway, with restoration and conservation-repair works being carried out by the Department of Technical Affairs. The steel fabrication installations of the carrier columns in the wooden and glass floor covering infrastructure of the area have been completed, with glass surfaces for viewing ancient ruins also being installed.
Supervised by the Antalya Museum Directorate, conservation works of historical ruins are ongoing, with meticulous archaeological excavations leading to the discovery of a structure with columns in the southern part of the tower. Expert archaeologists are also working on the conservation of patterned floor mosaics unearthed in the same area.
The archaeological findings near the Hıdırlık Tower not only add to the cultural heritage of the city but also provide valuable insights into the history of the region.
