Double Medal Win at Canoe-Kayak Super Cup Opening Day
Hungarian Canoe-Kayak Team Wins Silver and Bronze Medals at Super Cup in Hangzhou
Hungarian competitors made a strong start on the opening day of the canoe-kayak Super Cup in Hangzhou, China, winning two medals, one silver, and one bronze.
The three-day event kicked off with the K1 short-course marathon finals, with ten Hungarian athletes competing. Among them, Vanda Kiszli stood out as the best performer, finishing second behind world champion Melina Andersson of Sweden. Zsófia Czéllai-Vörös came in fifth, Panna Csépe ninth, Adrián Boros sixth, and Olivér Varga 11th in the men’s event.
In another impressive performance, four-time world champion and two-time Olympic sprint medalist Balázs Adolf clinched a bronze medal in the canoe event. His fellow teammates Máté Zsidai and Simon Sebestyén finished 13th and 15th, respectively. In the women’s race, Sára Lili Matkovics secured fifth place, while Dóra Hegedűs came in eighth.
This Super Cup marks the first time various disciplines, including sprint, marathon, slalom, and polo, compete simultaneously. Hungarian athletes will participate in the marathon and sprint events, with eight athletes competing in the sprint discipline. The upcoming days will feature more marathon and sprint finals.
A total of 500 athletes are expected to take part in the Super Cup in China, showcasing the significance of this prestigious competition on the international stage.
