Draft Regulations for Commonwealth International Film Festival Approved by Eastern Countries

Experts from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries have made significant progress in establishing the «Commonwealth» International Film Festival. During an additional online meeting on March 12, 2025, the experts finalized the draft regulations for the festival.

After carefully reviewing comments and suggestions from participating countries, the experts reached an agreement on the document. This finalized version will now be submitted for consideration by the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The council is set to convene on June 5, 2025, in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

The idea to create this international film festival originated in Kazakhstan. The main goal of the festival is to enhance cooperation in the field of cinematography and to promote national film industries within the CIS region. It has been decided that the festival will take place every two years in each participating country, following an alphabetical order.

The very first edition of the «Commonwealth» International Film Festival is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan. This inaugural event is expected to pave the way for greater collaboration and exchange of cinematic experiences among CIS countries.

As preparations for the festival continue, the film industry across the region is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of creativity, cultural diversity, and storytelling through the art of cinema.
