EAEU and CIS Journalists Unite for Press Tour in Minsk

Journalists from Nine Countries Attend Press Tour in Belarus

A press tour organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus is currently underway, bringing together journalists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This event commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War and takes place from May 4 to May 10, 2023.

The tour began with a comprehensive sightseeing excursion of Minsk, Belarus’s capital. Participants explored notable locations including the National Library of Belarus, the First National Handle House shopping center, and the Minsk Watch Plant OJSC. Over the week, journalists will visit significant enterprises, historical and cultural landmarks, as well as sites of military heritage.

Belarus holds a poignant history from the Great Patriotic War, during which it lost a staggering one-third of its population between 1941 and 1945. As part of the commemorative efforts, the country has established numerous symbolic memorial complexes and monuments honoring the victims of this devastating conflict. Currently, there are approximately 9,000 monuments and burial sites dedicated to the war across Belarus, especially concentrated in Minsk. These sites serve as part of military-historical tours and excursions, but more importantly, they stand as sacred places honoring the fallen and serve as a perpetual reminder of the value of peace.

This press tour not only aims to foster understanding and cultural exchange among participating nations but also emphasizes the importance of remembering and honoring the past.
