Easter Expenses: A Breakdown of Costs for This Year

With Easter quickly approaching, many Hungarians are preparing for the festivities with a big shopping spree. Traditional Hungarian Easter dishes often include ham, eggs, horseradish, and a variety of vegetables. To get a better idea of the cost of these favorite Easter foods, Hungarian Nation conducted a study.
It is recommended not to leave your holiday shopping to the last minute, as many shops and markets will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. However, do not worry, as retail chains and markets will be open on Saturday for any last-minute needs.
In an effort to revive old Hungarian Easter traditions, the markets, market halls, and shopping centers of Budapest Market Halls Ltd. have launched a campaign to promote the consumption of lamb. This initiative aims to bring back traditional Easter dishes to the dining tables of Hungarians.
When it comes to purchasing Easter foods, the Central Market Hall offers a wide range of products at varying price points. From artisan and premium products to traditional smoked ham, shoppers can find everything they need for their Easter feast. Prices for ham range from 3,900 to 6,990 forints per kilogram, making it comparable to prices in retail chains.
Tamás Éder from the Hungarian Meat Industry Federation emphasized the importance of choosing quality products when it comes to Easter smoked goods. He advised buyers to carefully check the shelf life of products and opt for safe, high-quality Hungarian meat over cheaper alternatives.
In addition to ham, Easter tables are often filled with eggs, radishes, lettuce, horseradish, onions, tomatoes, and peppers. Fresh vegetables are available in market halls for reasonable prices, making it worthwhile to visit one of the sites before Maundy Thursday.
Apart from food, shoppers can also find Easter decorations such as pussy willow, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths. These classic spring flowers add a festive touch to Easter celebrations.
Overall, Easter shopping in Hungary offers a wide variety of products at reasonable prices, allowing families to enjoy traditional dishes without breaking the bank. So, start planning your Easter feast and make sure to visit the markets and market halls to get everything you need for a delicious holiday meal.
