The nature and judgment of the sacrifice worship
Approaching the concept in the dictionary, as a religious term, which means what is instrumental in getting closer to Allah (SWT), sacrifice worship refers to the cutting of an animal that meets certain conditions in accordance with the procedure of worship in order to approach Allah and to reach His consent. The animal slaughtered during Eid al-Adha is called “udhiyye”, and the animal cut during pilgrimage is called “Hedy”.
The believer, who is considered mentally and physically capable, according to free, resident, and religious measures, sacrifices an animal in order to gain the divine consent, approaching the Almighty and helping those who cannot sacrifice due to financial constraints. In the essence of this worship, there is a concept of drawing closer to Allah and sacrificing for the benefit of others. The act of sacrifice symbolizes a Muslim’s readiness to give up their entire existence for the sake of Allah.
According to most sects, cutting the udhiyye victim as a sacrifice is considered sunnah. In the Hanafi sect, the preferred view is that the sacrifice is mandatory. Despite differing opinions within different sects, the act of sacrifice holds an important place in the religious life of Muslim societies for centuries, regardless of the legal provisions.
