End of Free Land Distribution for Kyrgyzstanis

The new Land Code in Kyrgyzstan does not include provisions for the allocation of free land plots and allotments to citizens, according to lawyer Gulzat Mamatbekova. In a meeting with residents of Bishkek, Mamatbekova emphasized the need to stop distributing plots due to the limited availability of land. She suggested that it is time to develop the land market instead.
Mamatbekova also mentioned that the state will reclaim pasture lands that were previously allocated to local communities but not effectively utilized. President Sadyr Japarov has also commented on the draft of the new Land Code, emphasizing the inviolability of private property and expressing his opposition to the state confiscating private lands.
These developments mark a shift in land policy in Kyrgyzstan, with a focus on market development and protection of private property rights. The discussions around the Land Code reflect the challenges of managing land resources in a growing population and the need to ensure effective land use in the country.
