Strengthening Ties: Afghan Delegation Visits Mary Province, Turkmenistan
Mary, May 6 (ORIENT) – From May 5 to 8, Mary Province is hosting a significant delegation from the neighboring Afghan province of Herat. Headed by Governor Noruddin Ahmad Islam Jar, the group includes around two dozen representatives from various government agencies and private enterprises. This visit marks a crucial step towards enhancing interregional cooperation and reinforcing the traditionally amicable relations between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
The visit is particularly noteworthy as it follows a recent trip by a delegation from Mary Province to Herat, showcasing the mutual interest of both regions in strengthening ties. This ongoing dialogue underscores the commitment of both parties to work collaboratively at the regional level.
Last November, a delegation from Turkmenistan led by Mary region administration head Begenchmurad Orazov visited Herat, where they engaged with key officials, including Governor Jar. During those discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation, focusing on joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development in border regions.
Economic Collaboration and Cultural Exchanges
Throughout their stay, the Afghan delegation is engaging in high-level meetings, including discussions with Orazov that review the prospects for future collaboration. The representatives from Herat expressed their deep appreciation for the support and humanitarian aid provided by the Turkmen government, emphasizing the significance of good-neighborly relations.
The visit includes tours of various industrial and production facilities in Mary Province. Delegates have shown keen interest in sectors such as construction materials, meat and dairy production, and environmentally friendly agriculture. The representatives acknowledged the quality of Turkmen products, which are essential as Afghanistan seeks to rebuild and develop following years of conflict.
Fostering Cultural Connections
In addition to economic discussions, the Afghan delegation’s itinerary highlights the importance of cultural connections. They are scheduled to visit historical sites in Mary, including the State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Ancient Merv" and the Mausoleum of Sultan Sanjar, reinforcing the rich shared heritage between the two nations. A visit to the Gurbanguly-Hajji Mosque is also planned, where prayers will be offered for the prosperity of both peoples.
The collaborative spirit and active engagement from both sides reflect a commitment to expanding trade and exploring opportunities for joint projects. A meeting with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan is also on the agenda, indicating the involvement of the business community in enhancing bilateral relations.
Conclusion
The visit of the Herat delegation to Mary Province symbolizes a strong bond of trust and understanding, aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the enhancement of economic and cultural ties between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, paving the way for further collaborative efforts in the future.
This event marks yet another chapter in the ongoing narrative of partnership and goodwill between the two neighboring countries.
